Most of my work begins outside, sometimes sketching, often painting, mostly just being and looking and thinking. I like to go back to places over and over again, to feel their different moods, see the changing light, the weather, the energy. Painting outdoors is usually about capturing that energy to use as inspiration for studio painting.
Here the luxury of time and space to set up my own little outdoor studio for a few hours! And the beautiful glow of late summer light. This is the beginning of ‘Sun-soaked’, the finished painting can be seen in my Land Gallery.
Sitting on the Grist in Laugharne
Sitting on the Grist in Laugharne, West Wales one chill winter afternoon in January 2020, the light coldly gleaming off the wet mud of the estuary, turning the world into a shimmer of silver and bronze. Fingers frozen I painted and scratched and created several pieces that formed the inspiration for Wistlessness, Laugharne.
Wistlessness, Laugharne, comes in a contemporary slim frame, that is over 4cm deep. the painting is protected by UV varnish to a soft satin finish, so there’s no problelm with reflections or glare.
The Meeting, where sky meets shore.

Framing:
My larger paintings are framed in a contemporary, simple white frame, which is over 4 cm deep. The frames are handmade and painted to a soft, wipeable matt finish.
Smaller Paintings:
Sometimes you want to capture something really big on something really small. These paintings reflect my ongoing fascination with the varied skies, weather and atmospheres of Wales.
My smaller paintings come in a simple, made to measure, wooden frame to suit the scale of the painting, the frames are all approximately 4 cm
